How AI is about to transform the way you watch TV

Many various options, including those for brightness, backlight, contrast, sharpness, color, tint, color temperature, and motion smoothing, are available on modern television screens. certain configurations work well for certain shows, genres, and lighting styles. However, the majority of us set one initial setting and stick with it. In part because we are afraid we will screw everything up.

These days, AI is employed to dynamically adjust these settings to provide you with the optimal experience. According to Frank Lee, professional marketing PR for LG Electronics' home entertainment division, AI operating on the backend is able to analyze and optimize every scene's backgrounds, faces, objects, and genres. Imagine Daniel Craig showing up on screen following a helicopter disaster; he seems incredibly angry and distressed. AI will concentrate the viewer's attention more intently on Craig's face, skin tone, sweat details, the cut he sustained, and the emotion, all while taking into account the director's emotional aim for that scene. Frank claims that while it optimizes the filmmaker's objective, it does not alter it.

Audio is also enabling similar features. Frank switches on Batman v. Superman for a short while on the 77-inch TV in our room to show how a 3D sound effect is made in certain instances where it makes a stronger impression. He claims AI assumes it's an action film. According to him, "it may even be aware of the plot and actual movie; it recognizes that there is a conversation, special effects, and background music, and it adjusts the sound to produce a three-dimensional effect."

The most recent Alpha 11 AI processor from LG is what allows the TV to perform all of this. LG creates custom chips for OLED televisions. Furthermore, this chip—which was released in June—improves greatly upon its predecessor. Frank claims that its AI power has increased fourfold. Additionally, this is making it possible for TV to become more personalized and interactive than it was in the past.

While suggestions are now provided by specific OTT platforms, AI on TV will be able to provide recommendations across all platforms. Voice commands are supported for operation. Even at home, it can distinguish between several voices and modify dashboards accordingly. The correspondent visited Seoul at LG's request.
