Amazon, Google, and Microsoft will be impacted by Nvidia's new AI processor delay caused by design flaws: Report

Due to design problems, Nvidia Corp.'s future artificial intelligence (AI) chips may be delayed, according to a story from The Information that cited two anonymous insiders involved in the development of server hardware and chips. The information could not be independently verified by HT.

Which tech businesses are going to be impacted by the delays in Nvidia chips?

An anticipated three months or longer of delay might have a direct impact on some of Nvidia's largest clients, including Microsoft, Google, and Meta. According to the report, the delay means that large shipments cannot be anticipated until the first quarter of 2025.

Together, these industry titans have placed orders with Nvidia totaling tens of billions of dollars for chips.

A source citing an unidentified Microsoft employee said that Nvidia had notified Microsoft previously about a delay in the Blackwell series' most advanced AI processors model.

What is the AI chip from the Nvidia Blackwell series?

The Blackwell chip series was first introduced by Nvidia in March of this year. The Grace Hopper Superchip, Nvidia's former flagship, was intended to accelerate generative AI applications. It was replaced by the Blackwell series.

"Production is on track to ramp" later this year, an Nvidia representative told The Information. However, the spokesman would not comment on the company's remarks made to customers. Conversely, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta declined to comment to the Information.
