The next Snapdragon X series chipsets may make their debut at Berlin's IFA 2024.
A report suggests that Qualcomm may release new Snapdragon X series chipsets the following month. Since the chipmaker's April introduction of its Snapdragon X series processors, there isn't a consumer laptop chipset that satisfies the requirements needed for Copilot+ PCs. This is due to the fact that Microsoft classifies laptops with at least 40 TOPS as Copilot+ PCs, and the specific Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU) in the chipset is reportedly capable of 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). Whether the company's upcoming X series chips will outperform its current CPUs in terms of NPU performance is unknown.
Potential Release of New Snapdragon X Series Chipsets Next Month
Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 mobile platform, which supports 5G, and demonstrated the capabilities of its X series chipsets at its Snapdragon India event earlier this week. Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Qualcomm's Compute and Gaming division, made a hint during the event that additional X series chipsets would be shown in September.
Kondap may be making reference to the planned Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) 2024 trade expo for consumer electronics in Berlin, according to a report by FoneArena. It has been speculated that the chipmaker may release additional Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite chip variations. According to the journal, new stock-keeping units (SKUs) of currently available CPUs may be introduced, even though new chip types are improbable.
The Snapdragon X Elite is available in three different SKUs: X1E-78-100, X1E-80-100, and X1E-84-100. Each chip is slightly different in terms of efficiency and performance, and they all have different prices. Rumor has it that at the Berlin event, additional SKUs in the Elite and Plus category may be released.
In addition, the business is anticipated to reveal the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform during its October annual event. According to Qualcomm, the chipset would include a dedicated NPU and utilize its own Oryon CPU. According to a previous source, the chipset might only see a single-digit boost in CPU speed, but it might offer a notable improvement in the power efficiency of the Adreno 750 GPU.
